HLD Interactive Hearings (15 July, 2013)
Although a considerable number of civil society organizations attended the HLD, the UN General Assembly’s (GA) “modalities” resolution (67/219) adopted in 2012 set a limit on civil society participation and speaking roles during the HLD plenaries and roundtables. To ensure wider engagement and input by civil society, the GA resolution set forth to organize “one-day informal interactive hearings in 2013 with representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations and the private sector“.
Therefore, to ensure wider engagement and input by civil society, the President of the General Assembly held one-day informal interactive hearings with representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations and the private sector at the United Nations headquarters in New York on 15 July 2013.
The objective of the informal Interactive Hearings was to provide an opportunity for NGOs, civil society organizations and the private sector to interact with Member States and to provide input and messages for the HLD.
The United Nations launched an official website for the Interactive Hearings.
